A Vintage Affair [ A Wedding ]

This bride is one of a kind.  She took every little detail of her October wedding and turned it into a DIY project. The outcome was simply stunning.

One of her DIY projects included brooch bouquets and boutonnieres.  The bride said, “I knew that I wanted to do something a bit different for the smaller details of the wedding, just for a unique touch. Being a creative person, I saw my wedding as the perfect opportunity to create fun, pretty things to add that unique, personal touch. I decided the bouquets and boutonnieres were a good place to start. I decided I didn’t want to go with flowers, as they are delicate and don’t last very long. Instead, I decided to collect antique brooches, pins, and jewelry from various local antique and thrift shops with my bridesmaids and mother. I also collected bright fabrics of all colors and textures, and handmade rosettes that would soften the solid ball of metal and bling. I ended up making nearly 400 rosettes, it was a fun, mindless project I could do in the evenings after work while watching tv, and still feel like I was being productive for the wedding.   I chose antique jewelry and rosettes that I felt represented my bridesmaid’s individuality, so each bouquet has its own personality and theme. For my own, I stuck to a white and metallic palette, no bright colors. They ended up looking great, but were really heavy! My girls ended up getting quite an arm workout!”

She also made all of the headbands, her own headpiece, and hand picked out all of the gorgeous china from different antique, consignment and thrift shops.DSC00514

My all time favorite DIY was the wedding dress that was created by her aunt.  The dress was made out of beautiful soft fabric and antique lace was perfectly placed amongst it.  The bride took it a step further by added beading to the dress and the final result was nothing short of incredible!

high school sweethearts [a wedding]

Following yesterday’s engagement post is our beautiful wedding day!  It has been almost three months since we got married and can I just say… I am SO ready to do it all over again!

Growing up I always wanted to be a wedding planner… I dreamed of my wedding since I was a little girl.  Fast forward 26 years and not only have I become a wedding planner, I  was planning a wedding of my own!

Chris and I met in high school, the year of 2005.  It was the classic boy meets girl, boy takes girl out on date, and a sudden… a romance blossomed.  On a trip to the Dominican Republic in 2013 Chris and I went on the walk on the beach where he dropped down on one knee and proposed. It was the best moment of my life.

This wedding was nine years in the making. We got married on a gorgeous day in the beginning of May.  There was no call for rain, but had a partly sunny and partly overcast day which turned out to be lovely for pictures.  The ceremony location was on a beautiful lawn overlooking the Potomac River and our reception was in a llama barn!

Family is the number one thing in our lives and it was important to incorporate them as much as possible on this special day.  My parents walked me down the aisle, my sister/maid of honor married us and both of our extended family members baked delicious cookies to add to our milk and cookie bar.

Chris and I are big on taco night… so big in fact that we decided to have a taco bar for our wedding!  That was both amazing and a big hit with our guests.

Some of my favorite “DIY” projects included

1. Love Notes Guest Book: I decided I did not want the traditional guest book so instead wooden hearts took place of paper pages and a box took place of the book. Each guest filled out a message on the heart and dropped it into a bird cage.

2. Flower Arrangements: The day before the wedding I had a few bridesmaids and family members meet up to put our flower arrangements together. I bought them at a wholesale flower shop and we prepped them and placed them in different vases.  The bouquets were filled with fluffy hydrangeas while the men’s boutonnières contained a delicate rose and dusty miller. I fell in love with the gorgeous blooms and the subtle mixture of bud vases along each table.

I could not have done this wedding without the help of my amazing friends, family, and of course, my handsome hubby.  That day was my dream come true.

A big thank you to Ally Boop Photography who was our photographer for the day and captured these images!

Also a big thank you to my beautiful friend from @beautyblushnbronzer for doing my hair and makeup (and most of the bridesmaids)!!

high school sweethearts [ an engagement ]

I am WAY overdue for this post about our engagement shoot which happened last October…  but it is better late than never right?!

Chris and I met over eight years ago while in high school and have been together ever since.  I was ecstatic when he proposed in the Dominican Republic last January.  Not only do I get to marry my best friend, but I get to plan my dream wedding!

As a wedding planner, I already knew what I wanted our engagement shoot to look and feel like.  Cozy blankets, warm apple cider and gorgeous fall foliage were a must for this shoot.

The shoot took place on a brisk October morning at one of our favorite local parks.  Once our photographer arrived, we threw off our coats, wrapped ourselves in the blankets and started the shoot.  As you can see in the pictures, I could not stop laughing as we were having such a great time!  We are so excited for our wedding in four months!

I did a lot of DIY projects for this shoot such as constructing a cake  stand from wood and a candlestick, making my own delicious chocolate  dipped apples and creating my own save the date stickers out of Kraft  sticker paper and white crayon.

the berriest of bridal showers

As a wedding planner I wanted to style my own bridal shower and yes, I know that is quite unusual but I am not one to follow rules!  I have seen snippets of adorable bridal shower photos via Pinterest, blogs, etc. and I knew I wanted a shower that was not of the “norm”.

My theme came out to be “A Berry Bridal Shower.” I had a wonderful time styling it with my maid of honor who happens to be my sister AND who happens to be the photographer behind these photos.

I also wanted to give a BIG THANK YOU to all of my bridesmaids that helped contribute to my amazing shower.
